Sweet-Souled
So many springs have burst forth from the earth around me,
yet I never stopped for any of them.
My soul will not drink from any pool but yours,
nor will it ever seek another spring.
I knew you first within my dreams, then I met you, and I knew
that you walk upon this earth like the rising sun.
O sweet-souled one, tell me—what sin could I have committed?
What have I stolen from Paradise,
or am I accused of stealing it with you?
Darkness casts obstacles across the road,
but I have never stopped.
I strive to reach the light,
and sometimes I strive never to leave it.
Then I discovered that I was dead, yet raised again,
drawing nearer to your gardens.
My heart races toward its love for you,
but my soul had already arrived before it.
